I was born and raised in Vancouver. After several years away, I returned and put down roots, raising a son and working in the public service. In 2009 my life was forever altered when I was diagnosed with with myalgic encephalomyelitis / chronic fatigue syndrome. I could no longer work full-time and had to retire from a career that I loved.
After my diagnosis, I struggled to adapt to a body that could not do what it once did. Grief, anxiety, and depression were also present. I found refuge on my yoga mat, and for many months I simply sat and breathed. Slowly I added gentle hatha poses, and later, Yoga Nidra meditation, both of which form the core of my daily practice. Later still, I became a yoga and meditation teacher, and for the past 14 years I have been offering yoga and meditation classes, both in-person and more recently, over Zoom.
